This is a lovely viola by William Gilkes, son of Samuel Gilkes, one of the finest luthiers in the Forster workshop. William produced many excellent instruments, and was also a highly accomplished professional player. His violins and violas reflect a deep understanding of what a professional player needs from their instrument. This particular viola makes an excellent sound, and has a gorgeous varnish.
