Louis Guersan was a highly respected luthier taught by Claude Pierray in the Vieux Paris school of makers, where he was considered one of their greatest alumni. In 1729, he took over Pierray's business in rue Foste-St-Germain des Prés and was appointed luthier to the Dauphin and Paris Opera. He was also a member of the corporation of luthiers from 1748 and was made its head in 1769. His work is influenced by Stainer and Amati, as was highly characteristic of the Vieux Paris school. 

This violoncello has a warm, open sound. Typical of Guersan's instruments, it has small dimensions and a slim body.
