By Honoré Derazey (1794 – 1883)
A prolific and highly skilled violin maker with a steady hand, many of Derazey’s instruments were modelled after those of Stradivari and, on rare occasions, Amati. He was one of the famous violin maker Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume’s greatest employees, being the only one to produce complete violins for him. After 1839 he then established his own business and was quickly successful; he won medals in Paris in 1839, 1849 and 1855, as well as an award in London in 1851.
