Student Rental Scheme

Thwaites have been renting violins, violas, cellos & mini basses for over 20 years not just here in Watford, London and the Home counties but Nationwide.

If you wish to hire we have all sizes and different qualities of violin, viola, cello & double bass (along with mini bass) outfits for rental.

All instruments are carefully set up in our own workshop to a high standard. The bridge is replaced or refitted and adjustments made to the pegs, nut, etc. We fit adjusters or integral tailpieces to help tuning. The bow is often replaced with one of a better quality. The outfits are supplied with bow, case (or cover for cello and double bass), a cake of good quality rosin and are ready to play.

Why rent from us? Though renting is already a low cost option (and our prices are already very competitive) we also cover the cost of replacement strings, bow re-hairs, fair wear-and-tear and the general maintenance and upkeep of the instrument during the rental period. Any major damage or loss must rightly be covered by the customer but, if cared for correctly, there should be no additional costs other than the monthly fee. That can be invaluable in family budgeting.

There is no minimum or maximum period of hire and instruments may be changed for a different size or upgraded or returned at any time without penalty.
