This is a fine bass - Old Italian slab Front with later English ribs of bird's-eye maple. The restored back has a later "cross" section, the addition of which was probably done at the same time as the ribs. We think that this may have been to keep as much of the original instrument as possible, rather than make a complete new back.
Though there has been plenty of restoration work the bass is in good playable condition and would be an affordable choice for the young professional or amateur to get a instrument of real quality.
