This is an interesting old 5 string double bass in very good condition. Violin outline with swell back this is a fine orchestral instrument.
The previous owner talked of "a dark smokey-red varnish" which used to be on the instrument. Unfortunately he, or someone he knew, poorly chose to "clean it off..."
The bass was labelled "Made by Howard, Lowestoft".
